About Bates of Atherstone

Established in 1918 by Albert Bates when he came out of the army in World War 1, and later joined by his two sons Wilfred and Norman.

Currently owned by Directors Ashley and Mat after Christopher Green's retirement in November 2013.

Ashley Haynes
An NVQ in catering and hospitality from Tamworth and Lichfield College and had spent some time in the catering industry. Whilst with us he has attained his NVQ in retail butchery. He is responsible for all the sausage making and sourcing and trialling new recipes. He has recently had some success on the competition circuit, achieving gold award for his pork sausage at the Birmingham Agricultural Society Winter Fair at Stafford, before Christmas and recently at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern, where he picked up another gold for his pork sausage and also for a pork with smoked cheddar and cider sausage.

Matthew Gothard
An NVQ in retail butchery. His speciality is new product development and fronts the shop with responsibility for the counter displays. His creativity was recognised, as he was selected to represent England at this years International Young Butcher of the Year competition held in Holland.

Jill Western
A valued member of the team overlooking all aspects of cooked meats, pies and ready meals.

Brady Bowman
Apprentice butcher looking to learn all aspects of butchery from sausage and burger making to boning out our matured local beef.
